VARIATIONS
Engine heaters include coolant warmers and oil heaters. The former keep the coolant warm, usually with an electrical device attached to the engine block, lower radiator hose, or inlet heater hose. Warmth from the coolant is transmitted to various engine parts which then reach operating temperature more quickly than otherwise. The oil heaters keep the oil warm through a dipstick heating element. The warmed oil heats other parts and provides for efficient lubrication immediately after starting the engine.
In extremely cold climates both types of these devices can be used as complements to each other.
